Best of 2021

Best of 2021

What a year! Like so many of you, we at HDID have experienced many ups and downs over the past year. As we look forward to turning the calendar once again to a new year, I would like to take a look at the successes we have enjoyed and what I expect to see in 2022.

Our team has grown! Over the past year, we have been very fortunate to welcome some amazing professionals into the HDID family. I am thrilled to add three new designers to our team: Erin Hudson, Maggie Marquis, and Shanti Pieniak. Erin loves to mix traditional and modern styles, loves blue and white paired together, and is equally drawn to muted California vibes and bold textured rooms. Maggie loves modern styles, unexpected shapes and textures, and minimalism juxtaposed with more traditional pieces. Shanti loves any naturally-occurring color (greens, greys, and browns) and an added pop of Rattan, raw wood, or an interesting statement vase. In addition to our design team, I have added a new Operations Lead, Patty Rixey. Patty is a lover of classic chandeliers, dark green cabinets, monochromatic color schemes, and lime wash paint. I am so thankful to have these talented ladies on our team and hope you have the pleasure of working with them in 2022!

HDID in the news! Every designer’s dream is to be included in industry publications—and my dream came true in 2021. In August, Architectural Digest did a feature piece on how to create a serene bedroom oasis at home. With all the chaos we have faced over the past 18 months, they reached out to ask my advice on the best ways to soundproof your bedroom to ensure a good night’s rest. Please read Soundproof Your Bedroom with these 4 Effective Tricks to learn my answers. In addition, you can see how my clients’ historic Chevy Chase, Maryland home was reimagined for a modern family in this home tour from My Domaine and learn about the best home tips I learned from my dad in The Spruce. And finally, if you are considering a kitchen renovation in the new year, you won’t want to miss my recommendation for a modern twist to traditional cabinets in 10 Kitchen Design Trends to Look Out for in 2022, According to Designers or my favorite light fixture to use in your upcoming project.

We are offering new services! This past year, I have unveiled a new trio of services that I refer to as my “Affordable Options” In addition to my traditional full-service design options, I now offer E-Design, One Time Consultations, and Design Consulting. Please see my previous blog post, Introducing New Services for the New Year, for more information. And please stay tuned to see what we have in store for 2022!

And I continue to be committed to providing the best service. Over the past year, we have taken a look at our design services in a multi-part Lifecycle of a Project series. From the Initial Consultation to Project Close Out, our process is unique and provides each client a customized experience. Please visit the Design Process page on the website to learn more.

And finally, I would like to say a sincere thank you to all of my friends and clients who have supported HDID over the years. I am honored to be invited into your homes and lives. I wish you all a happy and prosperous 2022!
