Design Question #5: Giving Your Fireplace an Update

Design Question #5: Giving Your Fireplace an Update

A fireplace can be the focal point of any room—no matter what your budget!

Hi Heather,

I have a fireplace I would like to update with a small budget $500, what do you suggest I do with it?

Thank you!

Marilu

Hi Marilu-

$500 won't get you too far, so if you can up your budget just a bit I think you can go a long way. I'd recommend replacing the mantle with a reclaimed mantle that can bring some interest into the space. Alternatively, you could use a surround and mantle combo like this one. Next, I'd go with a very simple stone mosaic tile. Stone is the best material to use around a fireplace since it can withstand heat better than a porcelain or ceramic tile. A basic carrara is a great neutral option. I love the hex shape tiles right now for something a little different.

Here are a few of my favorite accessories as well:

I hope this helps!
