Capitol Hill Washington DC Interior Designer

Hello. I’m Heather!

I’m a Washington, DC interior designer with 15+ years of experience and the founder of Heather Disabella Interior Design.  I spent the first 10 years of my career working with corporate, healthcare, and not-for-profit clients, which I truly loved.  After the birth of my first child, I quit my full-time job with a firm and launched Heather DiSabella Interior Design where I have enjoyed working with over 150+ clients since opening. You can usually find me fluffing pillows and creating family-friendly homes on Capitol Hill.

MY PHILOSOPHY:

I’ve always believed that design is more than just making a space beautiful.  It’s about creating a space that makes you feel at ease and inspires you to be the best version of yourself.  I believe the design of your home should be a reflection of who you are.  Every home should be functional, flexible, and have a thoughtful balance of investment pieces and budget-friendly finds.

Hidden talents?
I am an artist! Painting is my favorite, but I love drawing, sewing, sculpting, and even ceramics. I’m also a pretty good dancer, and can break out some shuffles and time-steps if needed (that’s tap-dancing lingo!).

Favorite place in DC?
The Smithsonian National Zoo? I love animals. I also love the seclusion and beauty of Roosevelt Island.

What is your spirit animal?
Probably a Trash Panda (aka. a Raccoon). Fastidious and slightly mischievous. I also love a good dumpster-dive (it’s astounding what some people will throw away!).

What is your guilty pleasure?
British detective shows. I love all British sleuths, from Sherlock Holmes to Inspector Morse (you’ll only get that last reference if you’re into this genre, like me).

What is your karaoke song?
“I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston; I also love a good “I Got You Babe” duet (by Sonny and Cher) if I have a singing buddy!

How would you describe your home decor style?
It’s probably easier for me to say the styles I am NOT into: super-traditional, super-modern, or industrial.

Favorite color(s) or color combos? I honestly can find a way to use and enjoy most colors! It’s easier for me to list the shades I struggle with the most: dark brown, dark red/orange-y shades, and dusty light blues.

Any colors/trends that you love?
I’m feeling drawn to modern styles these days! I.e. unexpected shapes and textures, minimalist designs. I love juxtaposing these with more traditional pieces. I am also into different types of wall molding, everything from classic wainscotting to more abstract installations. Anything that adds dimension to a flat wall. I would love to fit a daybed into my life somewhere, but my life isn’t that relaxed or glamorous!
